Russell Thornton

Russell Thornton’s collection The Hundred Lives (2014) was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize. His Birds, Metals, Stones & Rain (2013) was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Poetry, the Raymond Souster Award and the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. His other titles include The Fifth Window, A Tunisian Notebook, House Built of Rain (shortlisted for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize and the ReLit Award for poetry) and The Human Shore. Thornton’s poetry has appeared in several anthologies, among them In Fine Form, Love Me True, Rocksalt: An Anthology of Contemporary BC Poetry, Open Wide a Wilderness: Canadian Nature Poems and Best Canadian Poetry in English 2012. His poems have been featured several times on Vancouver buses as part of BC’s Poetry in Transit. After living for periods of time in Montreal, then in Aberystwyth, Wales, and then in Salonica, Greece, he has lived for the past number of years where he was born and grew up, in North Vancouver.
