Technology Intern — Sales and Marketing
Location: Madeira Park, BC (on-site preferred) | Remote or hybrid considered for experienced candidates
Term: 12 Month contract, commencing June 2026
Eligibility: Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of hire. This requirement is a condition of the program funding supporting this position.
Compensation: $23/hour/40 hours per week

Harbour Publishing is one of Canada’s longest-established independent publishers, with a deep backlist rooted in the literature, history, and culture of British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. Our associated publishers—Douglas & McIntyre and Nightwood Editions—share our commitment to Canadian voices and rigorous editorial standards. For nearly fifty years we have supported emerging publishing professionals through paid internships, many of whom have gone on to careers across the Canadian industry.
The Role
This is an opportunity for a tech-savvy emerging publishing professional to work at the intersection of publishing, digital marketing, and sales. Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Technology Intern will research, implement, and document strategies to improve the discoverability, distribution and sales of Canadian-published books.
Key Responsibilities

Support publicists in executing marketing campaigns and work with the sales team to improve visibility of Canadian books in physical and digital retail spaces

Support the US marketing Director in boosting export sales

Support the Online Marketing Manager and help implement recommendations from consultants

Document all strategies, findings, and recommendations on an ongoing basis, culminating in a final presentation and report
What We’re Looking For

Knowledge of Canadian publishing, books, and literary culture

Demonstrated interest in the sales and marketing aspect of the publishing industry

Organized with the ability to manage projects independently

Proficient in English with excellent written communication skills

Strong research and analytical skills

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Experience working with data, and online dashboards, familiarity with ONIX metadata standards would be a bonus

A post-secondary degree or diploma in publishing, communications, marketing, or a related field is required. Applications from candidates with experience in the book publishing industry are preferred—previous publishing internships will be considered toward this requirement.
