Harbour Author Still Going Strong at 100

Posted: Friday, July 26, 2013 at 9:59am

Harbour Publishing has sometimes been accused of having a lot of authors who are (ahem) a bit mature, but Rex Terpening, author of Bent Props & Blow Pots: A Pioneer Remembers Northern Bush Flying, has carried the trend to new heights. Surrounded by family and friends on July 23, Rex had the satisfaction of receiving a letter from the Queen congratulating him on his 100th birthday!

We add our hearty congratulations to Her Majesty's!

Rex Terpening is one of the very last of a breed of air engineers who flew with the bush pilots and shared all of the routine hazards they faced. Now starting his second century, Rex is a perceptive observer who writes not only with an insight gained from a lifetime in aviationmuch of it at the grassroots levelbut with humour and sensitivity.

Although Rex ranks as Harbour's senior author, he published his book when he was merely 90. The record for oldest active author in the Harbour list goes to Frank White, who will be publishing his first book this October. Frank is 99.
