Mike Poole Passes

Posted: July 18, 2010

Author and filmmaker Michael Poole, author of Rain Before Morning (Harbour, 2006), died July 13 at his home in Halfmoon Bay, BC. Poole grew up in Hopkins Landing on the Sunshine Coast and began his career as a copy boy with the Vancouver Sun then became a line producer with CBC TV, producing such well-known programs as The Beachcombers and The Nature of Things. Later he moved to independent TV production, creating such notable films as Tankerbomb, which was influential in defeating the first Kitimat tanker-port proposal, and Between the Sky and the Splinters, based on a Harbour Publishing book of the same name. Mike was a BC original, a man of prodigious talents and energies who made his time on this earth count in many ways. On Friday Harbour staff held a martini night at sea in his honour with appropriate libations. His energetic presence will be greatly missed. Our condolences to wife Carole and family.
