Posted: October 8, 2009

Nightwood Editions author Stephen Rowe will launch his new poetry collection, Never More There,  with the following events in St. John’s & Gander:
· St. John's Launch: Reading and book signing at The Ship Inn, (265 Duckworth Street) on Monday, October 19 from 8:00pm-9:30pm. Admission is Free.
· Gander Launch: Reading and book signing at the Art Gallery, Joseph R. Smallwood Arts and Culture Centre on Wednesday, Oct. 21 from 7:30pm-9:00pm. Admission is Free

How do we reconcile story with fact? What must one lose for the other to exist? In this debut collection, Rowe explores the nature of mythology and how it morphs in time to retain cultural and personal significance. Folk tales, supernatural creatures, family histories and personal elegies come together to expose the cohabitation of the dead and the living, and the relationship between cold absence and stark presence.

“Again and again while reading Never More There I was struck by arresting lines and images, by Stephen Rowe’s rigorous attention to the natural world and the world of words. Eloquent and passionate, Rowe is poet of real promise.”
– Michael Crummey
