Prince Rupert Meets Fort St. James

Posted: June 23, 3009

Author Marie Elliott will kick off CBC Daybreak North's summer author series at 6:45 am on Wednesday, June 24th. Marie will speak with the host of Daybreak North–Prince Rupert Carolina de Ryk about her new book Fort St. James and New Caledonia. This glimpse into British Columbia's crucial beginnings follows the lives of the first fur traders, including Simon Fraser and his founding of the fur trade empire known as New Caledonia. Carolina and Marie will discuss some of these dramatic early stories, as well as sharing details about Marie's upcoming tour through BC's interior. Beginning July 5th, Marie will drive from Fort St. James, through Vanderhoof, Prince George, Barkerville, Quesnel, Williams Lake and down through 100 Mile House for her book tour. She follows a route near to that of the ancient trail followed by the first fur traders, but her journey will take her to the museums, libraries and bookstores that enrich the heart of our province. Tune in to Daybreak North bright and early!
