In Top of the Pass, author and thirty-year Whistler resident Stephen Vogler conducts what amounts to an archaeological dig to find the beginning story of the community we now know as Whistler. Beneath the glamour of the Whistler village, he unearths not only the town’s former garbage dump, but a subculture of ski-bums and 1970s squatters, a history of logging, trapping and lakeside fishing lodges, and at the valley’s deepest layers, a Lil’wat First Nations culture that is indelibly written on the land.

From Whistler itself, the book tours the Sea-to-Sky Country from Squamish in the south to Pemberton and Mount Currie in the north. Finally it points the way to the many recreational and cultural opportunities in the area, leaving you to conduct your own exploration of the Sea-to-Sky Country. Brimming with stunning colour photographs by Toshi Kawano and Bonny Makarewicz, this spectacular coffee-table book shows why the Sea-to-Sky Country is one of the most visited destinations in Canada.
